#2014BloggersChallenge - Topic 3 - Once upon a time...

We are now on to topic 3 in the 2014 Blogger Challenge and the theme that we have been given by Gabi from another girly blog is once upon a time... which challenges us to write about our most favourite book.

Now by the title of this topic you maybe thinking that I have chosen a fairy tale to write about but ironically I have chosen to write about a book that challenges the things we read and are taught about by fairy tales.

Now many of you may have watch MTV's The Hills back in the day, a show that I use to love and never missed a episode. You will remember that Lauren Conrad went to work in a fashion PR office called People's Revolution which is own by the author of the book that I am going to talk about today.

Kelly Cutrone was someone that stood out for me on the show as I love the fact that she is not a woman that is afraid to speak her mind. She has spent years working in the PR business learning her craft and set up her own business through having strong work ethics. For me she is a great role model so when I found out she had wrote a book I just had to read it.

The book I have chosen to talk about is her first book called 'If You Have To Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You'.

Now many of you maybe thinking that this is a fashion book, I was too until I started reading to find that Kelly talks about how as a women we need to find our inner divine.

The reason I wanted to share this book with you all is because at the start of this challenge I shared with you my new years inspiration and this book is truly inspiring.

Life is full of obstacles, and Kelly talks about hers but more importantly she shares how she overcame them and how as women we need to follow our own life path and not conform to the global views on how we should be.

One of my favourite quotes from the book is when Kelly is talking about the word 'bitch'
'Truth be told, I have never seen "bitch" as a bad word. Instead, I see the word for what it is: a reflection of people's lack of creativity and inability to acknowledge and embrace a powerful woman.'
- Kelly Cutrone: If You Have To Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You

She proceeds to conclude...

'In the meantime, all over Salem, Massachusetts-one of my favourite towns, I take my daughter there each halloween-there are signs that read: WITCH: Woman In Total Control of Herself. If that's what a witch is, then a BITCH must be a Babe (or Boss) In Total Control of Herself.'
- Kelly Cutrone: If You Have To Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You

In the youtube video below, Kelly explains what her book is about...

I would completely recommend this book as a must read. This book and Kelly inspire me to strive for more in my life.

Have you read this book? Did you like it? Will you be going to buy this book after seeing this post?

I hope you have enjoyed reading and don't forget to comment as I would love to hear what you think of this book and post.

The girl! x
