Top 2012 Fashion Moments.....Goodbye 2012, Hello 2013!

Well as we all say goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013; I take a look back and count down my 10 best moments of 2012.

This year has been an amazing year for me and this blog. I am really proud of the things that I have achieved and I am looking forward to things to come in 2013 but before I go through the best moments of my personal 2012, I am first going to look at the top 2012 moments that I will remember.

Raf Simons named creative director at Dior and Jil Sander returned.

After months of speculation about who was going to replace fallen angel of 2011 John Galliano as creative director at Dior, rumours were finally put to rest when Raf Simons was named. The fashion world was shocked during Milan fashion week when Jil Sander announced that he would be leaving his post at the fashion house which caused everyone to reignite the rumours and gave him a standing ovation for his final collection. With Raf moving on, Jil Sander returned to her own house after a 9 year absence.

New creative director at Balenciaga
As Nicolas Ghesquiere stepped down from Balenciaga after 15 years, the fashion house named much loved fashion designer Alexander Wang as the new creative director in December. The fashion world will be full of excitement in 2013 waiting for his first collection for them as well as seeing what will be next for Nicolas.

The fashion world said goodbye
Much like 2011, the fashion world said goodbye once again. This time it was to front row journalist and style icon Anna Piaggi aged 81.

Fashion did the Olympics
It seems that the fashion world was determined to make the London 2012 Olympics the most stylish one to date when Stella McCartney was announced as the designer for team GB, Ralph Lauren for team USA and Giorgio Armani for the Italian team. London continued this in the closing ceremony by showing the world how much we do LOVE our fashion by having Supermodels walking down the runway.

A Royal affair

RAINBOW QUEEN BY VOGUE SOURCED FROM DAILY MAIL

Once again there was a big focus on everything British in 2012 and as the queen celebrated her diamond jubilee, us proud British people celebrated and showed the world how we put on a show. Every British fashion magazine paid tribute to the Queen and my particular favourite was a feature in vogue, which created a colour blocked spectrum of outfits that she has worn over the past year. We all also waited in anticipation to see what amazing outfit the Duchess of Cambridge would wear to the many events that celebrated the Queen. With the announcement that there will be a new member of the royal family, I’m sure that British fever will continue into 2013.

A new kitty on the block

There was a new star in the fashion world this year and no one was more surprised as Karl Lagerfield, his beloved furry friend, Choupettes became a household name, so much so that British Grazie featured her on the front cover and she acquired at twitter account @ChoupettesDiary with a following that currently stands at 24,486.

H&M teams up with Marni, Anna Dello Russo and Maison Martin Margiela

2012 was the year that H&M continued with their designer collaborations. In March they teamed up with Italian designer, Marni and I was one of the many who queued to purchase pieces from the collection. Later on they joined forces with Anna Dello Russo and Maison Martin Margiela.

London Collections: Men Launched by Prince Charles

2012 marked an exciting time for British menswear designers as London launched its first ever Menswear Fashion Week called London Collections: Men, which was officially opened by Prince Charles. For menswear to have its own London Fashion Week marks a important mile stone as the strength of menswear that is filtering through is very strong. The next one is coming in January and we are all very excited to see what our amazing British Menswear Designers will produce.

2012 British Fashion Awards

With the end of the year comes the 2012 British Fashion Awards which was held at The Savoy Hotel in London. Stella McCartney was the winner of the evening taking home 2 awards for Designer Brand and Designer of the Year. 20 year old Cara Delevingne finished an already successful year by wining the Model of the Year award.

Romeo Beckham makes his modelling

Following in his father’s and Mother’s footsteps, Romeo Beckham became the newest member of the Beckham household to enter the fashion world by becoming the face of Burberry making his modelling debut. Romeo models along side Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell in Burberry’s new campaign.
